Titration

Titration is an analytical technique used to determine the concentration of a specific substance in a sample. It is based on the reaction of a known amount of a standard solution (called a titrant) with an unknown amount of a substance to be determined (called an analyte). By measuring the volume of standard solution required to complete the reaction, the concentration of the analyte can be determined.

Titrations can be performed in a variety of ways, such as by using indicators that change color when the reaction is complete or by using electronic meters that detect reaction completion.

It is often used for determining acid-base reactions, determining oxidation-reduction reactions and determining metal ions in solutions.
