Calcium

Calcium is a chemical element and an important component of drinking water. It occurs naturally in many water sources and is an essential nutrient for the human body. Calcium is present in drinking water in the form of calcium ions, which are usually derived from the walls of water pipes and other water treatment infrastructure by dissolution of calcium carbonate (a mineral found in many rocks). A high concentration of calcium ions in drinking water is referred to as "hard water" and can cause limescale deposits in water pipes and household appliances.
